Crossover Pattern

Crossover Square Pattern

Materials List:

Crochet hook
3 colors of 4 ply worsted weight yarn.

The square is made by crocheting 5 strips and then joining them. Each strip consists of 25 rows of 6 sc across. Use the chart below to determine color changes. Each "block" on the chart represents 5 rows of 6 sc.

To begin strip, ch 7. Sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across, ch 1, turn. (6 sc)

In all subsequent rows sc in each sc across, and ch 1, turn at the end of each row. To make color changes, end off yarn, join new yarn in same sp, ch 1, and turn. When changing yarn colors, crochet over both loose ends of yarn (old and new) so that you won't have to hide those threads later.

After making all 5 strips, place them according to chart.
Join strips LOOSELY with a sl st. Hide all remaining loose threads.

Note: Once you determine the size of the afghan you want to make, it may be easier to crochet the "blocks" in one continuous strip the length of the afghan. However, you may want to graph it out first since the square is not positioned the same way throughout the afghan.
