Crochet Cat

 
Materials.
60 grams 8 ply (UK - DK; US - worsted weight) acrylic yarn
3.00 mm crochet hook
small amount of contrast colour for collar and bell

Abbreviations
dc = double crochet
tr = treble crochet
Pattern = 1dc, 1tr on every row worked over an even number of stitches. That is, you will always be working a dc on top of a tr, and a tr on top of a dc.

BODY AND HEAD - Make 2 [Back and Front are the same]
Using main colour and 3.00 mm crochet hook   Ch 27
Row 1: 1 dc into second ch from hook, 1 tr in next ch, (1 dc in next ch, 1 tr in next ch) rep to end - 26sts - turn
Row 2: 1 ch, (1 tr, 1 dc) in first st, (1 tr in next st, 1 dc in next st) rep to last st, (1 tr, 1 dc) in last st - 28sts - turn
Row 3: 1 ch, (1 dc, 1 tr) in first st, (1 dc in next st, 1 tr in next st) rep to last st, (1 dc, 1 tr) in last st - 30sts - turn
Row 4: same as Row 2 - 32 sts
Row 5: same as Row 3 - 34 sts
Row 6: 1 ch, (1 dc in next st, 1 tr in next st) rep to end, turn
Rows 7 - 16 : same as Row 6
Row 17: 1 ch, dec by comb first 2 sts, (1 dc in next st, 1 tr in next st) rep to end, - 33sts - turn
Row 18: 1 ch, (dc in next st, 1 tr in next st) rep to last 3 sts, 1 dc in next st, dec by comb last 2 sts - 32sts - turn
Row 19: same as Row 17 - 31sts
Row 20: same as Row 18 - 30sts
Row 21: same as Row 17 - 29sts
Starting HEAD
Row 22: 1 ch, (1 dc in next st, 1 tr in next st) 10 times - 20sts - turn
Row 23 - 32: same as Row 22
First EAR
Next row: 1 ch, (1 dc in next st, 1 tr in next st) 3 times - 6sts - turn
Next row: same as Row 33
Next row: 1 ch, (1 dc in next st, 1 tr in next st) 2 times, dec in last 2 sts - 5sts - turn
Next row: 1 ch, 1 tr in next st, 1 dc in next st, 1 tr in next st, dec in last 2 sts - 4sts - turn
Next row: 1 ch, 1 tr in next st, 1 dc in next st, dec in last 2 sts - 3sts - turn
Next row: 1 ch, 1 tr in next st, dec in last 2 sts - 2sts - fasten off.
Second EAR
With first ear on right hand side, skip 8 sts, join yarn and work as for first ear.

TAIL
Using main colour and 3.00 mm crochet hook
Make 2 ch and work 3 dc in 1 st ch, turn
Row 1: 2 dc into each dc, - 6 sts, turn
Row 2: 2 dc into each dc, - 12 sts, turn
Row 3: 1 ch, (1dc into next st, 1tr into next st) rep to end, turn
Rows 4 - 26: as Row 3
Fasten off.

TO MAKE UP
Sew back and front pieces together, leaving base open. Stuff firmly with polyester fibrefill and close opening. Embroider eyes, nose, mouth and whiskers with black yarn.
Fold tail in half lengthwise and starting at the tapered end join the long seam and stuff lightly as you proceed. Place open end of tail at the back seam at top of shaping and sew in place. Curve tail towards the front of body at "floor" level and tilt tapered end upward. Sew into position.

COLLAR
Ch 46
Work I dc in 2nd ch from hook, and 1 dc in each ch to end (45dc)

BELL
Ch 7, sl st into beginning ch,
Ch 3 (1st tr made), 8 tr into same ch as the sl st, sl st to 3rd chain of 1st made tr, fasten off

.Place collar through loop of bell,  then place collar around Pooska's neck and join ends securely with a few sewing stitches.
Make a short twisted cord of the same yarn, tie into bow and attach to front of collar at bell.
